Very few SMEs manage today without needing some sort of language or localization services. Products are exported, services are targeted at foreign clients, and co-operative projects with partners in different countries are set up. In Finland, it can be said that the language skills of Finns are already at an adequate level, but language skills and linguistic competence, especially in business, are two different things.
It is of great importance that products get the quality attachments they deserve. The end user gets very irate if the documentation of the product is of inferior quality, especially if the product is highly technical and complex to use. Working in the localization business, we sometimes had to rescue clients who had first sent their translation work to a low-price, low-quality vendor, who eventually did an appalling job at hacking the documentation to pieces. Once this even posed a hazard to the end user, as a gas grill manufacturer had sent the installation guide to be translated by a person who had lived abroad for 26 years and had lost most of the Finnish language, and had no clue about the correct terminology. With the original translation in hand it was possible for the person assembling the grill to insert a part the wrong way, making gas leaks inevitable.
It is of course to be understood that Finland is a small market and costs for translating an SME's documentation can be prohibitive in relation to sales. However, a well crafted localization process can work to the SME's benefit in the sense that if the user guides, documentation, websites and other texts are written with localization in mind, it can be possible to have a great cost-to-quality ratio on the documentation, including all languages.
This is another of Sabulo's core business areas: we can assess your localization needs, and after that either translate the documentation or direct you to one of the agencies in our network. Either way, your product gets a proper, high-quality documentation which will be reflected in the sales of the product.
